Does the enemy in Iraq/Afghanistan have any kind of hideouts?

In the Battle of Iwo Jima, the Japanese built a series of underground tunnels to hide from the Americans. Does the current enemy in Iraq and Afghanistan have any kind of fortification or 'hideout' set up from which they could stage undetected attacks?
