What was this cat thinking? (plus a bonus question)?

It was probably just ignoring you or it is friendly and not wild if you have never seen it ever it was probably a drop off :(. Maybe ask your neighbors if it is their cat if not (If you have the money) feed it and make a new friend :) If it sensed you were treating it it would have acted in defense.
